Privacy
We built this checker to work without collecting personal information.
What we don't do
- When you check a project, we don't store your postcode, your pin location or your answers. They are used to produce your result and then discarded. The one exception is if you buy a report (below).
- We don't use accounts, and we don't set any cookies unless you agree to analytics (below).
- Your postcode and location are sent in the body of the form, not in the web address, so they don't appear in our web server's logs or your browser history.
Who else sees what
To give you a result, your information is sent to these public services:
- postcodes.io receives your postcode, to find where to centre the map.
- planning.data.gov.uk (Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government) receives the coordinates of your pin, to find the designations there. It doesn't receive your postcode or answers.
- The map tile provider receives your IP address and the map area you're viewing, as with any online map.
If you buy a report
- So we can build your report after you've paid, we keep your postcode, pin location, project and answers for 14 days, so you can download it again during that time. They are stored encrypted on our server, and deleted automatically after 14 days.
- Payment is handled by Stripe. Your card details go straight to Stripe and never reach us. Stripe also handles your email address for the receipt, under Stripe's privacy policy. We use that email address once, to send you the link to download your report. We don't store it. Stripe keeps a record of the payment, as it's required to.
- We don't use your details for marketing, and we don't share them with anyone else.
Our hosting provider keeps standard web server logs (IP address, pages requested and time) for security, which we don't use to identify anyone.
Cookies and analytics
If you click "Accept" on our cookie banner, we use Google Analytics to understand how people use the site, such as which pages are visited and roughly where visitors are in the world, so we can improve it. Google Analytics sets cookies (named _ga and _ga_…) that last up to two years.
- We never send Google your postcode, your pin location or your answers. They're sent in the body of forms, not in page addresses, so Google never sees them.
- For paid result pages, Google only sees that a result page was visited, never its private address.
- If you click "Reject", or don't choose, Google Analytics isn't loaded at all and no cookies are set.
- You can change your mind at any time using "Cookie settings" at the bottom of every page.
Google processes this data under Google's privacy policy.
